Galspanic Pioneers New Scale

The LEGO blog Microbricks reports on Pieces of Things Contributor Galspanic (working under the Flickr pseudonym "Apocalust") experimenting with a new minifig scale. Is this scale influenced by SD (super-deformed) style or "chibi"? Answer our questions, Galspanic!

When I first began building things in this style back in the early days, my only real influence were antique Norwegian wooden chessmen. But as I developed my signature style, I began to branch out and really tried to personalize the pieces. I discovered that combining minifigure heads with the smaller, less articulated bodies lent the completed piece to the super deformed, (or "chibi") movement, so popular in Japanese media forms for quite some time now.
I figured the necessary step after that would be to call these miniature scale figures, Chibi-Lego.
Today of course you can find Chibi-Lego brand in any household, but I still dimly remember a time when they were just minifig heads, and random small bricks looking for a home.
