Childhood cartoons

I promised Galspanic, Fugu and Pony a long time ago that I'd post a clip of Sally-chan, a cartoon I watched in kindergarten. Sally's family was from space somewhere and she had magical powers, but she lived on Earth and went to school among regular human girls and boys. She would travel back and forth to her parents, who lived in space, on her broom. It was great! I think all the girls in my kindergarten watched this! I don't think the boys got into it too much though. Probably because it probably didn't have any explosions or transformer robots.

Mormon Cartoon

Nothing like a cartoon to really highlight deeply, deeply crazy beliefs. Also note the large amount of rotoscoping--real footage exists for a lot of this, dudes.

Underdog script

Happy New Year 2010 from Underdog!
Happy New Year, everyone. This year my mom has gotten to know Chet Stover, one of the creators of Underdog. God I love Underdog! He sent me his original hand-typed script for episode #21: Shrinking Water(Part II)*. Wow!

He said he wouldn't mind if I posted it, so here you go:

*I'm not 100% sure if Shrinking Water (Part II) is the most important story, Mr. Pony.

Extreme Dinosaurs. No, seriously.

Every now and again I feel shame for my ability to recall the Shirt Tales theme song. Then I take a trip down Youtube Street, and I realize maybe it's ok. Maybe I was born in the right decade.

I say this mostly because A; I have no memory of these programs, or their theme songs (so happy the Extreme Dinosaurs video comes with lyrics!), and B; I don't look at these videos and say "Damn, that was a cool show! I still have the toys!"

I do look at my crappy ass Transformers and GiJoe guys and say these fuckers were true. These fuckers were down to earth, you young bitches. These fuckers could take on the street sharks. They weren't Extreme. They fucking made sense! Transforming robots make a hell of a lot more sense then Street Sharks! They were real.

Of course, both the GiJoe and Transformers cartoons have undergone an "Extreme" iteration in their way-too-long-lifespan. This is why there should be a moratorium on any cartoon that does really well then burns out fast. These programs shouldn't be allowed to be updated for 50 years*

Look what happened to The Real Ghost Busters! I shudder!

THIS NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.

50 years should be long enough to allow for us to be senile enough to appreciate a cartoon's childlike appeal without the pain of nostalgia.

*Except Venture Brothers Extreme. They should go ahead and do that show now.

Dead Boy Coach

I know I said I'd stop, and this is an afterthought compared to Ruby's, but I thought I noticed a disturbing trend emerging.

Large Magical Pants Coach

Ok, not to be a boaster but I think I may have trumped all of those all with this:

I have to admit I'd never heard of this till a co-worker mentioned it to me today. The animation is actually much more skillfull than Mr. T et al but I think the clunky hip-hop plot description still pulls through for a higher overall crappiness.

Psychotic Break Coach

Theme song by Menudo, apparently!

Rainbow Magicalness Coach

Is this up one or down one?

Gymnastics Coach

This one's for you, Helpwillcome. I can't believe I watched so much of this crappy, crappy show. Can anyone one-up me?

Uhm...yeah...

Immaturity? Lost in the past? I dunno. I can't say anything to defend myself on this one. I did enjoy it and will probably watch it again tomorrow.

MTV ruins a generation

This is going to make me die a lot inside. MTV might be turning Invincible into a multimedia extravaganza:

The process starts with digital scans of the actual comic book pages. They are turned into an audio-visual experience through a process called Bomb-xx developed by Gain. In the end, the formerly two-dimensional comic book suddenly pulses with music, while word balloons pop up and fill in as actors recite the dialogue and panels zoom in and out and pivot in all directions.
