Mutant Mynah Bird

A little over a month ago, Galspanic and I were driving near the intersection of Kapiolani and McCully, when we spotted this Mynah bird with a ridiculously long beak. I have no idea if this is a standard variation of the Mynah's beak or what. The Common Mynah was introduced to Hawaii to control sugar cane pests, including armyworms and cutworms. A beak like this might be kind of useful for that, but I've never seen any Hawaii Mynah birds sporting a specialization like this.

Super-Weird Beetle in Honolulu!

Saw (and caught) this on my back porch, in Palolo valley. Never seen anything like it. It was about an inch and half long (3.8cm in English). Seeing new animals here is totally shocking, because I've lived here almost two-thirds of my life, and I don't often see new species. Still, I shouldn't be surprised. Boats arrive here every day. Also, I don't really go outside that much.

TARANTULA!

Friend of mine sent me this picture from his office. He works for an animated educational web site. Moby and Tim are characters there.

This is not an actual spider that Laura sent through the mail. It is, in fact, her pet tarantula's exoskeleton, sloughed off during molting, which tarantulas do every couple of years. Still, it caused quite a stir in the office. There was screaming, I heard. My friend was very touched that Laura thought to send such a wonderful and personal gift. My friend feels a great deal of pride over this event.

50 Most Horrible Horrors walking the earth today

I think we've covered this territory pretty well, but here's a comprehensive round-up of the most awful monsters that God saw fit to place upon the earth to test our faith.

Puppy Squeezer

Mr. Pony's last post made me think of this photo I took a few months ago in the former Woolworth's on Balham High Street, now called simply '99p.'

It's kind of less disgusting than the pig, but also less educational. Not sure how clear the photo is, but it's full of little cartoon doggie bones. It says 'watch my bones float around my body!' on it.

Panic's Weekly; A dumb one.

O.k., so an extremely naughty group of extraterrestrials manage to teleport all animals off of Earth save those we have caught or domesticated to be household pets. That leaves us Dogs, Cats, mice, rats, aquarium sized fish, snails and crustaceans, several species of small birds, parrots (no fowl though), chinchillas, guinea pigs, turtles, ferrets, iguanas, some species of snakes and the cuter species of frogs. No potbellied pigs though. No pigmy animals either.
Intergalactic police are on the case, but they say it's going to be a few generations of our lifespan before they catch the evildoers.
the question is, How do you think we'll fare? The earth still retains all of its arachnids, insects, and invertebrates. Any wild or feral animals/fish that match the species kept in cages/aquariums still remain in the wild/seas. the earth has roughly three hundred years until all the other animals are returned.

Giant Monster in My House

I was on the phone with Galspanic when I saw this giant mosquito (?) flying around my living room. It doesn't look like much now that I've murdered it, but when its wings were flapping, its legs and feeding tube flailing wildly, and with the blood-curdling scream it was emitting (the screaming part is a lie), it was pretty impressive.

Incidentally, does anyone know where I can buy either a very tiny or very giant penny? I think I could take some pretty cool photos if I had something like that.

A tarsier, God, and THX Sound

Things like this:

It's actually a tarsier, not a maki or a lemur. And why did God make women menstruate? I mean, cats and rats don't have to menstruate and they make babies just fine. That's just mean to women. If I were women, I'd hate God.
