What I Eat Most- Rowlh

1. Oatmeal w/ Dried Blueberries and Brown Sugars

2. Chicken Chili

What I Eat Most

It's a bit crunchy, and doesn't have quite the dietary benefits of the real thing, but on the plus side I'm angling for a future Guinness record (I haven't decided whether to go for the plain and simple man-eats-17-tons-of-plastic approach or perhaps the gross factor of longest-intestinal-surgical-procedure or such) AND is guaranteed to satisfy the curiosities of most readers of this blog.

What I Eat Most -- Mr. Pony

Rice with some kind of protein; usually fish (canned mackerel and a raw egg shown here), with a whole mess of Japanese pickled vegetables and mushroom things sprinkled with seaweed and little dried fish. Sometimes I pour hot water or tea over the whole thing. When I make breakfast, it's often a variant of this. BONUS SHOT: Food porn-style photo taken from inside the food, with nothing to speak of in any kind of focus:

I mostly eat eggs.

I'm sorry that my phone camera is not good. But I mostly eat eggs.

The Promise of Genetically Modified Foods

Here's a special daikon radish, the DNA of which has been spliced with porcine DNA. It grows to maturity filled with ground pork. Rinse, halve, season with shoyu and white pepper to taste, and grill. Allow radish to char slightly; the burnt skin will peel right off. Serve. Stalks and greens can be wound tightly and used to power laptops.

Ram-Goat Soup

Ram Goat Soup Packet, frontRam Goat Soup Packet, back

I really like the package design of this soup I just bought at my local newsagent's in South London.

Soup at its best! Real Mannish Water! It dominates any soup!

Cathy's Mom's Pho Recipe

A couple of months ago, Cathy's mom was generous enough to share her pho recipe with us. Even better, she demoed the entire process, involving us at every step. This, friends, is the right way to teach a non-linear multistage process! Also, we got to totally eat it after, which seems to have spoiled me for the pho found in Vietnamese restaurants. I have yet to make Cathy's mom's pho at home, but I have compiled my notes into this stupid drawing, posted here with permission. Start in the upper left hand corner and work your way down.

Also there are photos. Not as many as I would have liked. Fugu and I took photos, but as it happens, we both took photos of exactly the same things.

Big thank you to Cathy and her mom.

Waiola Shave Ice is Famous

Shot this a couple of weeks ago at the Waiola Store, where the shave ice, in my opinion, a better mouth-experience than the ever-so-slightly overrated Matsumoto Shave Ice.

This goes out to AI-BU9 and Demon and Helpwillcome, among others. We were talking the other day, and well, we miss you guys.

Food Party with Thu Tran

Anyone else watching Food Party on IFC or on the Internet? It's kind of like a cooking show, but it's more like if you held your breath for three weeks and then thought real hard about food and mythology and felt. Mrs. Pony found this and we watch it together on television. The puppetry and sets and storylines are dizzying, and Thu Tran is hypnotic.

Episode 4:

A NYTimes article about Ms. Tran, who lives in our old neighborhood, apparently.

Porkgasm

They say that bacon has jumped the shark. While this post may be evidence of this, it is also ample proof that it was a mighty big shark. God rest your soul, Bacon Meme.
