Origami and its "real-life" applications

Since we are being infected by Japanese sex robots, I figured I'd try to find some sort of counterbalance. Superstar artist Corinne Kamiya posted this on facebook. I thought I'd re-post it here. It has a funny sort of parallel resonance to how the Europeans found ukiyo-e in their packing crates in the nineteenth century and went crazy.

Groovy! I love how nerds can thrive in some of the most unlikely niches.

This is neat, and probably the nerdiest thing I've ever seen. I saw this exhibit about a year ago, and it was both mind-blowing and creepy. It's gone, I think, but there's a Photosynth of it here, whatever that is. I can't see it, but I assume that's because I'm in a hotel room, or because I'm using Safari, or because I'm an atheist.

Some of those paper things are neat but, how come all these origami people are men? I'm just wondering. All the boys in J-school hated origami day.
