Freelancing sucks sometimes

I just finished a ten-year freelancing stint last year.
This funny thing reminds me of it.
So does this one.

I love 27b/6. Sometimes I doubt the full truth of the correspondence (it's just too good, on both sides), but I think it's True, nonetheless.

Also, I feel your pain. I don't think staff designers or art directors are immune to this sort of self-defeating lunacy. I've actually had the folks who need the design (everyone has a client) tell me to make the page "POP" more. Then they laugh, quite explicably.

God yes. That was my last client before I had to leave my advertising job. It was a valuable lesson, but a lesson in pain nonetheless. I so wish I had been able to do that email exchange to him. My boss was such a fucking stoic dude about the guy too. He just took any "advice" the guy gave, made a mock-up of it and showed it to the guy. the guy would say "How can you make such fucked up crap?" And my boss would shrug and say "ok, how should I do it, then?" And the client would start anew, usually with a whole 'nother idea fueled by whatever was popular at the time.

One time I asked my boss how he could put up with all of it. He said the client had totally paid off for him this one time and made like krillions of dollars, so he just kept a positive mindset. Then he proceeded to crack open a Mickey's big mouth and emptied it in about a minute. At ten fifteen am. With a chunk of beef jerky.

OMG, I'm sorry for everyone who felt pain while viewing those links but they were so funny. My face hurt. I love that there are people who can come out with such blunt honesty wit and candor and shut down sneaky, freeloading pompous asses. Now if only we could do something like that for sphincter-holes in healthcare.

Sent the links to my co-worker and bf. They're still suffering. I remember the bf suffering through the client who "designed" his own logo and was proud of the giant palm tree in the middle of it. It looked really phallic but somehow the dude missed it.

Co-worker just informed me he had to do a website using Comic Sans. (sigh) "Because that font is part of our message!" Uh, right. And what message would that be?

Wow, really? I thought that was a cliché.
