Hey, wow, this has come a long way! I got all excited when the ships all landed in their launch bays, because then I knew there would be a moment when you could launch them all to combat an enemy. "Scramble all fighters!", I would yell; if I were playing. "Civilian mining crews, report to the underground bunkers! Damage control teams, stand by! Sickbay, prepare to receive casualties! Intensify forward batteries! This is not a drill! This is what we've trained for, people!"
Hhhh. Hhhh. Hhhh.
Holy... From scratch? Outstanding, LC! It sure looks like you've got some great attention to detail with the mechanics.
I too /grinned when the fighters went under ground. You just know that soon the other guy is gunna be all, "...IT'S A TRAP!"
And then you're gonna be all, "BOOM!"
Keep us updated!
Thanks, guys. The video includes them launching too, right? Or did I omit?
You did, and the way they fly off is unexpected, and fun. I think we were both describing our feelings at the precise moment of enhangarment.
I'm not gonna lie to you Litcube. I got bored after about three minutes of watching this.
I did like the idea of waging war against the Green Canadians though.
I see vast potential here, though it may be time to give a little bit of the setting, lore, and rule-set. I can't imagine you doing this all by yourself, LQ. At least get a helper monkey or something.
About the fighters--yes, how they leave their hangers is kind of what I meant about your attention to detail. It seems like individual units have their own personalities. I am picturing henchman as the slackers.
Panic, my apologies. The game is in its alpha stage, and I suppose I'm showing it to you guys because you're artsy, know about game mechanics, and I value your input on either. I guess it is boring. Perhaps I'm misusing the blong. I am sorry.
Fugu, as it stands now, I am a design team of one. It does look like a massive project for one dude, but If I think about it like that, I'll get depressed.
The game story is the following:
The year is 2078, and Earth has discovered an asteroid belt
between the Kupier belt and the Oort cloud. The belt contains asteroids with an abundance of valuable minerals, ores, etc. So much so, that upon its discovery, companies came out of the woodwork, bought some ships, and
established colonies on these asteroids. You're one of those
companies. The companies don't like each other. And unfortunately, rules are more lax out here.
From then on, you're mining the asteroids for these minerals (14
different types of minerals, asteroids contain different amounts of them). You slug it out with rival companies with inter-stellar body missiles and turn based tactical combat with your ships. Missiles are launched directly from asteroids to enemy asteroids in an attempt to destroy infrastructure, or attack colonies with ships, and counter those attacks with ships. It's a slow paced, strategy based expansion. Expand by establishing colonies on other asteroids, and multiply your bases, and therefore your mining capacity, ships construction capacity, etc.
Minerals and ores are sold to earth, which arrives every month via a massive freighter ship. All companies are neutral to earth, and can sell their minerals and ores to the freighter as well. Part of the strategy is, how much do you sell? You still need some for building ships, missiles, and buildings, but at the same time, require money to fund
your expansion.
Hopefully, addictive gameplay will come in the form of upgrades or a research system. Obviously there will be different types of missiles to research and build, design your own ships, and research their components. Stay ahead of the research curve, and secure your expansion.
Make sense?
Litcube, this is really really not a misuse of the blong at all. Posts about where we are and what we are doing are always awesome. We always have the Curated Internet for the other stuff.
Games like this aren't usually as fun to watch as they are to play, as so much of the planning and strategizing goes on in one's head. Also, since this video isn't even three minutes long, keep in mind that Galspanic restarted the video after he had watched it once, before he got bored!!
What happens if you attack the massive freighter from earth?
Litcube, you misread my funny. You see, the video ends before three minutes. So I was saying after three minutes I got bored. It was a poorly phrased funny. I see that in the light of day. I have twins, guys. Twins I don't make funny as well as I used to.
I think it's very neat LC. I think you are doing things to make me proud (and jealous) We need to get together after you make this game and talk about our future game making plans.
Ah! Ok. Yeah, we should get together and talk about our future gaming plans!
I'm also glad to hear that this isn't a misuse of the blong. I like this blong.
I haven't decided if it's possible to attack the freighters from Earth. I think there's wouldn't be much point in that, as you'd essentially be cutting off your only source of income. And coding the reaction to that would be a lot of work for players who are only going to do it once just to say, "Heh. Neat. Ok, new game." But then again, it's this attention to detail that envelopes players into the youniverse.
Wow, this is nice, Litcube. Did you ever play M.U.L.E.?
I never have, but heard a lot about it. Why do you ask?
