Star Trek

* EDIT: HIGHLIGHT POST TO SEE SPOILERS *

GOOD!
*Swollen Kirk hands
*Excellent, realistic Shatner-esque writhing on ground grimacing thing by Kirk guy after being hit or falling over
*Young Bones

BAD!
*Alternate reality get-out
*Not enough Young Bones
*Pudgy
Enterprise

Edit: (Warning contains fake spoiler):
*I was glad to see the Spock-Kirk romantic relationship finally fully explored outside of fan-fiction.

I liked it! Did you liked it?!

Ruby...Ruby...Darling...
Not everyone has seen it yet. Please restrain yourself.

But I pretty much agree with everything you said except that I liked the pudgy ships.

I enjoyed this movie immensely.

IMAX! Lez go!!! I also enjoyed this movie, Ruby! Surprisingly so. I would love to see Heeero's comments on this since I think he might be the biggest ST fan here, but he might have never made it out of the theater.

I actually didn't mind the alternative reality bit! I'm stoked that they stuck to it at the end, and didn't do a full reversal back to the way things were. Ballsy and unprecedented in the trekiverse!

Hope you don't mind, Ruby, but I've hidden the spoilers in your post.

We should be safe back here, though!

Overall, I liked it very very much. We've been rooting for a reboot for a long time now, and this totally did it. I didn't mind the alternate reality, but didn't think the story warranted it. It felt like it was there for hard-core Trek fans, who might demand some level of continuity from this new universe to their beloved universe. No need to spell it out for these guys, though. I mean, if anyone intuitively understands divergent realities, it's hard-core Trek fans. Everyone else understands Hollywood remakes just fine.

I also did not mind chubber Enterprise. Also, of the fresh-yet-respectful new takes on the characters, Bones was the highlight for me, too.

RE: Pudgy ships/time-travel reality alterations

Are we to understand that Nero somehow massively influenced industrial design during the years he was waiting for Spock? Maybe a ship designer saw his mining thing during the attack and it totally blew his mind and made him throw out all the white, clean-line stuff he'd originally been planning? Was he suddenly repulsed by the color orange to do with trauma or something?

I've just added a link to an amazing PG-rate Kirk/Spock romance site I found, there are even haikus. Warning: contains spoilers about the undying love of two spacemen for one another.

Something about child Kirk's jacket reminded me of Back to the Future 2. Dug the IDIC cockpit and the Morn like alien in the bar. Is it just me or do all of you want Spock's snow parka. Good movie... fn' Citizen Kane compared to the last one with the space dune buggys and clones and yet another Data.
