I mean I don't deny the fundamental right for Haitians or any and all people to be able to greet the new day properly with a sun salutation, but don't the physiologic needs of air, food, and water trump any spiritual ones?
Perhaps they will wring the used yoga mats for their water?
For the record, I think Fallows is right--While a yoga mat makes for a better bed than nothing at all, we are all right to make fun of this sign. Its lack of self-awareness hovers somewhere between "Let them eat cake" and everything Thurston and Lovey Howell ever said.

Woah. Is it real?
Where does yoga fit into Maslow's hierarchy of needs?

This may be comedy gold, but still; I think I would rather sleep on a yoga mat than the ruined country of Haiti any day of the week.
Sex is a basic human need?
In my book, it is THE basic human need.
I still think someone who can afford to attend yoga class has the money to send Haiti something better than a sweaty old mat.
Wait, maybe I shouldn't assume they're not sending anything better. Maybe they're sending cash with their used mats.
your book is a porno book
Wow! Who illustrated this? Very nice, whoever you are!!
Btw, here's a follow-up on the yoga mats. Apparently a lot of yoga practitioners were hurt by James Fallows' post...
For the record, I'm not dissing yoga either. I would like to get in the habit of regularly going to yoga class.
But I will diss people who want to send their old yoga mats to Haiti.

Thanks for posting the follow-ups!
