Why the hell does this fill me with pride?

No; they're all too obvious for that. It's because of the common themes. It's as if our stinking miasma of pop culture has an internal, self-consistent logic, brought on by an pre-conscious oneness of humanity. At least late 20th century American humanity. Also, it rhymes.

Interesting you mention that. I felt something too, but it was more of a "happy for my friend" sort of pride, on account of the American-ness.

Canada wasn't a player much during the golden days of film. We're emerging, though. For example, I Robot was filmed in my city, New Westminster (Smith actually runs past my gym in one scene, and drives a car past mah starbucks in another).

America created a lot of cool shit.

i wasn't trying to explain your pride, pony; just reacting like a happy moron to the obvious references. here's my take: what's the one thing in this medley that doesn't quite fit? this thing was financed by 30 Rock, presumptuously inserting itself into a grand tradition of pop classics to which it doesn't yet (and probably never will) belong. sort of like when kings of old would commission a genealogy of gods and heroes, culminating with, what do you know, the king! or when obama gets the nobel prize for existing. "oho!" you say. "what about Family Guy? that doesn't quite fit, either!" true. Family Guy and Cars are there to throw you off the scent. i can't believe you fell for that!

litcube, you're underplaying canada's important contributions to comedy. Kids in the Hall and various giants of SNL had more of a "right" to this cavalcade than the pretender 30 Rock. you guys can rest on your laurels for 100 years for william shatner alone. also for giving your injuns their very own territory. you're all heart.
