Saw (and caught) this on my back porch, in Palolo valley. Never seen anything like it. It was about an inch and half long (3.8cm in English). Seeing new animals here is totally shocking, because I've lived here almost two-thirds of my life, and I don't often see new species. Still, I shouldn't be surprised. Boats arrive here every day. Also, I don't really go outside that much.

You might want to tell someone authoritative about this guy. He doesn't appear to be a native. I'm hoping he isn't destructive to our environment.

I once took an odd looking bug to a lady who was an entomologist who worked for the city of New Westminster, and she couldn't ID it. She then sent me to the Department of Argicultural, who were also conveniently in my city, and they totally fucking IDd this bug. It was the European Chaffer Beetle, and they would swarm my home by the thousands in the Summer.
OH! Wait. My story sounds like I'm talking about your beetle, which I am not. I do not know what your bug is, but it resembles a 10-stripe potato beetle ever so slightly, save for that massive thorax.
That could be one of those new Zerg hybrid units...
I probably shouldn't have let this guy go. I also fed him, and gave him a canteen of water, and told him the launch codes, and gave him money for the bus. I probably shouldn't have done that.
