I get so crailed on level 9. Best i've gotten to is about 7:30 left, and I've been trying all night. I've had limited success with this technique. Super-limited.
Wow! Hey, did you find that having extended mining arms splits their forces in a useful way? I notice you don't upgrade your mining stations... Do you think that's a waste of money? Could you have dealt with that last wave of motherships? I have so many questions!
Also, you know what's super-neat about this game? Wireless power.
yeah, I think it was all about sprinting out and mining the hell out of stuff whenever I got a pause.
I also used your clusters of relays thing to keep ships from coming in too close sometimes until I could get lasers in place to deal with them.
The last few minutes of the game was just me desperately reconnecting severed lasers and watching my complex crumble. That last wave of motherships would have kicked my sorry ass.
Got to that last wave of yellow ringer dudes with this installation and was completely sodomized. I think I have a chance next time if I don't make some horrible choices about which towers to sacrifice for resources...
I did it too, although I neglected to take a screenshot. I will re-attempt and document. Fugu's offline tip about how you can recycle EVERYTHING YOU HAVEN'T UPGRADED with no recycling cost was the key.
I basically tore down and rebuilt my entire defense structure at every wave, using either un-upgraded lasers or missile turrets clustered like mad around a central power core (which I kept throughout) and wherever I happened to be strip-mining at the time.
What I think is interesting is that the outcome was the same as when we play any RTS game. Even though we both achieved the objective, Fugu finishes the game with a thriving empire full of veterans, while I end up with a stripped and barren landscape and a long receipt for thousands of dead/recycled soldiers.
We may be comparable as generals, but Fugu would make the better king.
I found that by building a number of decoy structures within proximity of my lasers, I didn't have to do as much recycling. I also could ignore some of the outlying asteroids. Definitely good to note from fugu, that upgrades to lasers (other than thels) weren't really necessary.. Thanks!
Pony, I think the main difference in our play styles is that I have a misplaced sense of responsibility and empathy towards my units and mother nature, and am therefore less likely to send off suicide runs, work my slaves to death, or strip mine every fucking rock I see. But it's all misguided, of course. Not only do they all end up dying anyway but also it's a fucking video game.
Odori pioneered that amazing and infuriating wall-building technique. But yes, when I can get it to work, my economic style of play works for me. The trick is to shoot for peak oil at every moment of the game.

The Green Lantern in me demanded I do this.
Haha!
Ruby, did you recycle the mining dudes between waves, or just left them out there to die? It's so spread out I get all wheezy just thinking about it.
Got down to 2:33 and started seriously running out of power. fail.

F'ing finally.

I mean upgrades from level one lasers to thels.

And stop spreading lies! As has been pointed out before, your empire consistently thrives more than the rest of ours. Plus, you're definitely more innovative with your strategies.
