Here is the updated Tauren costume for this year ;) I didn't quite get to finish it the way I wanted to... I flat out ran out of time. But I may get back to it again early next year and go hit Kawaii Kon 2011 ... I think we should all tap into our inner costume building geek and hit Kawaii Kon all together!

Wow! How long did this take you? Well done, man.
Love the helmet design (and the overall effect). Sorry I couldn't make it out to the costume contest! Looks like you were able to scare the crap out of some small children, though, and that makes all the work worth it. I hope it some of them think that the armor was the costume, worn by a real Tauren.
How many hours did you put into this thing?
I'm up for going to/crashing Kawaii Kon 2011. I can't stop thinking about the stuff you showed me with foam sheets--that stuff creates a lot of possibilities.
"He's Uncol Erwoh!"
Dude Faka, you are so frickin' rad.
The weird thing is... you look strangely short.
Your costume is insane!! You should come visit NY and walk in the village parade next year. Seriously.
Thanks for the props everyone! Sorry for the late reply. I've been busy cleaning the apartment from the HUGE mess I made making my costume.
As for how long it took to make... roughly the month of October. On average 3-5 hours a day. Not exactly a case of having too much free time, was actually more about sacrificing family time which I sort of feel horrible about =/ Towards the end I'd have to say it started to feel more like a job I had to do and kept telling myself next year I'm either going to start waaaaay earlier or just be mellow and relax ;)
I definitely would love to hit up Kawaii Kon Pony. I'd be happy to show you the actual process to make, seal and paint the foam. I got lots of leftovers too so let me know. Very curious to see what you would cook up.
And yeah Panic... I thought the same thing once I finally saw photos... short. I didn't get to actually put everything on at the same time to see how it looked before heading out. In fact I was still painting at 7:20 pm and needed to be downtown by 8pm to register... I literally piled everything up, but on the black sweats and took off and got dressed on a dark dirty sidewalk in Chinatown. The only thing I didn't get to touch up on due to lack of time was the legs and hooves (100% unchanged from last year). I know what I have to do now... I need to make some jacked up hooves.. I'm thinking 8-10 inches of additional height would be cool ;)
And Bekah I'd love to walk around NY with or without a costume ;) I think it would cost a pretty penny to get my stuff over there though. The costume is pretty light, however it's also very fricken huge. It makes my 6'2 non petite frame look small. And fills my wife's Subaru Outback wagon to capacity... even had to strap the hammer to the roof ;)
Ahhh... time to relax :)
Dude. Just. Dude. That is absolutely incredible!
Lol I know both Heeero and I cry the tears of neglected Tauren when we see this.
I'd love to pick your brain about doing foam casting for more solid structures at some point. I have used two-part foam in some art pieces a few years back, but would love to make something a little more...cosmetic/prosthetic?
so amazing!
that is fantastic! i gotta say though, the contrast between the amount of apparent costume making time spent by you and your ladyfriend is kinda amusing.
