What I Eat Most -- Mr. Pony
Rice with some kind of protein; usually fish (canned mackerel and a raw egg shown here), with a whole mess of Japanese pickled vegetables and mushroom things sprinkled with seaweed and little dried fish. Sometimes I pour hot water or tea over the whole thing. When I make breakfast, it's often a variant of this. BONUS SHOT: Food porn-style photo taken from inside the food, with nothing to speak of in any kind of focus:

Disney Princesses, Packs One and Two
Saw this on a recent trip to the Magic Kingdom. I might have have been experiencing that thing that happens to you at Disneyland, where you try really hard to be all jaded and skeptical of the wonder of the Disney Experience™ so you don't become a true believer or anything. See, I did it there again, by adding that little trademark to "Disney Experience". But I saw this, and got kind of pissed off.
I hardly need to spell it out; basically someone had the bright idea to make two separate sets of princesses, the first with all the white princesses, and the second with the Asian, Native American, and NON-HUMAN princesses. I think the point of this is not segregation per se, but so that they can make 25,000 sets of white princesses, and sixteen sets of the ethnic/non-human princesses, and have it come out even in the end. In theory. No idea how this plays out.
This doesn't actually bum me out that much anymore. I think it just looks bad, is all. Doesn't send the best possible message to racist little girls everywhere. I'm probably just mad because they didn't sell them in singly, and I didn't want to deal with stupid Jasmine and stupid Aurora and stupid Cinderella just to get Snow White (with Travel Cloak!) and Mulan.

Bandwagon
Somewhere in Harajuku. Smoking on the street is only allowed at special giant ashtrays (but in a restaurant go to town). It was odd to see people in face masks stop, pull down the mask and shove a cigarette in their gob.
Be cool... not celluloidal
I snapped this somewhere in Japan. I can't remember where. It doesn't matter! And where can I find such a small horse? In Japan, of course. A horse! Of course.

James' next trip
James is going down the Thames in a boat he made from wood he found in dumpsters next to the river. He's leaving somewhere upstream on Friday morning and coming back to Westminster or thereabouts on Sunday night.
... don't you think it might be a good thing if you began at once to keep a boat at the Temple stairs, and were in the habit of rowing up and down the river?
-- Great Expectations
UPDATE: James is on his way. He's really good at twittering.

Apple, Google, & the future of the internets
I thought this might be an interesting summary of a few things floating around the internet of late. I know we have both Apple fanboys and Windows jocks alike on this blong. We've been surprisingly respectful on issues of technology so far, so lets see how long we can last before we all take a collective dump on civility and TEAR THIS PLACE APART! Actually, I'm just curious if you guys think Apple and/or Google are heading in the right direction. BEGIN!
Charlie Stross: The real reason why Steve Jobs hates Flash.
I don't get the title. The piece seems less about Flash than it is an excellent forecast on the future collapse and rebirth of the computer industry...
Christina Warren: Apple versus Flash versus HTML5
Lastly, Jon Stewart: On Apple's response to the stolen iPhone prototype. Granted, who knows if Apple forced the police to burn Gizmodo's headquarters to the ground, Either way, Mr. Stewart sums it up perfectly with "Appholes".

Apple are trying desperately to force the growth of a new ecosystem — one that rivals the 26-year-old Macintosh environment — to maturity in five years flat. That's the time scale in which they expect the cloud computing revolution to flatten the existing PC industry. Unless they can turn themselves into an entirely different kind of corporation by 2015 Apple is doomed to the same irrelevance as the rest of the PC industry — interchangable suppliers of commodity equipment assembled on a shoestring budget with negligable profit.
A solid analysis of why Flash will be a non-entity in the future, and why it has little to do with Apple. With a cool graph, here. In fact, Windows seems to agree. (bummer for vector-based animators, of course)
Bobbie Johnson: Apple iPad will choke innovation, say open internet advocates
Lastly, Jon Stewart: On Apple's response to the stolen iPhone prototype. Granted, who knows if Apple forced the police to burn Gizmodo's headquarters to the ground, Either way, Mr. Stewart sums it up perfectly with "Appholes".
