Welcome, Jim!

This is awesome. I'm wondering why I haven't seen more guestbook fiction.

Also, let me know how those cabins are! We've been thinking about taking a family vacation there. The little guy is obsessed with volcanoes. Or terrified of them; we're not sure. Guess we'll find out.

@Pony-san: Make sure to come check out my nerdcave if you're on the Big Island.

I think we should give some serious consideration to a P.O.T. tour of Volcano National Park. Is there stuff on the surface right now, Big Island dudes?

trees were burning! and people were shouting oooh! but it's not spewing magma into your face and burning your eyes out. a few months ago it was pouring into the sea and making big plumes of poison gas which smelled bad.

mistah pony - that cabin is miles backcountry and had lots of ants. i don't think the little guy will like volcano ants. there are other cabins nearby the camp entrance but they're under some sort of quarantine. or at least re-construction. i will keep my eyes peeled for various child-friendly options.

Man, I miss the surface flows we had a few years ago. You can always check the daily update from HVO:

Still, if you haven't been out for a while, the vent in Halemaumau is pretty impressive.

the lava is reportedly right up to the viewing area, all you interested-in-lava people. i'm going to try to get out there in the next couple of days to check it out and report back.
