Hm, looks like a "remake" of a Japanese folk tale about vengeful cat/woman ghost. Usually it means someone in your house is going to die--and I don't mean in a dismembered leg hopping around kind of way (although that Japanese manga GeGeGe no Kitaro had some body part ghosts in it). Bottom line--if your ryokan room has an ugly persian kitty sticker on the wall--leave immediately!
I remember reading something about a nation wide recall in Japan with that particular model lamp. Awesome post!
